Is Verizon Edge the best VZW plan these days?

So I took a close look at my cellular bill last night (my wife normally pays it) and it seems like I am not getting much of a deal these days. Right now my plan is the following:

- 2 phones (both are well past the two year contract time as well)
- 550 shared minutes
- 500 messages
- 2GB data per line (this is a problem for me as I normally run right to the limit)

And my cost (with a work discount) is $158 per month.

Looking at the Edge plan, I would have unlimited talk and text plus a larger, although pooled, amount of data for $160 before my discount (8%).

Is this the best bang for your buck plan Verizon has these days? Is there something else to look at before making the switch? I thought about trying Straight Talk but they don't offer CDMA coverage in my area according to their website so that seems to be out.

It has been so long since I have looked at plans I appreciate any guidance.

I have a Note 2.
My wife has a SG3.

I realized last night how bad this plan is. I should have looked closer at it a long time ago.

You know any AT&T branded phone will work with Straight Talk, right?

Either way 160 is a hell of a lot of money for two phones. Do you know what the coverage is like with the other providers in your area?

I was hoping to stay with the (Verizon) phones we have now. Then again, I could probably sell our phones and buy the same ATT versions and move to Straight Talk without too much trouble.

Coverage around here is pretty spotty with anything but Verizon. Also, my work has Verizon repeaters installed and I often use my phone for work purposes. Going to another carrier would pretty much leave me with no coverage on the shop floor.

Actually, the S3 modem was locked down, but the Verizon Note 2 works perfectly on AT&T and refarmed T-Mo... just add APNs.

If you want to stay on VZ, your best bet may be to split the family plan into two individual plans.

If your work has Wi-Fi, T-Mobile may be an option.

Look into PagePlus, it uses Verizon's network though not sure if that includes repeaters or not. A similar plan on PP would run you 110. You could go cheaper if you don't need much data per line for 80.

I might just see about switching us over to the individual plan s44 linked to. The small amount of data sort of stinks, but the price is much better.

well, you still get subsidized phones (for the new $60/month plan vs your old plan). $120+tax vs $160

anyways, overage for the $60/month plan is $15/GB... so you can still go over 2GB ($120 + $15/GB * 2) = $150
