3500+? Get a venice. ALternatives are newcastles winchesters and maybe a couple really old claws. Venice will clock Much higher than any of those unless you get a bad venice and a good winchester.

Frankly, if you are planning on a 3500+ I'd go to the San Diego cores. They're on the .09 process and better yet...

If you're gonna OC then get a 3000+ or maybe a 3200+ Venice.

Not overclocking, go with a 3700+ San Diego.

Yeah I know Venice is .09 but some people get confused about San Diego and think it is .13...

The 3700+ SD also has had a decent price drop recently.

Who says you can't overclock 3700+ san deigo? You can get up to 2.8ghz on AIR with the SD 3700+

The San Diego is a killer overclocker. Get that one if you're willing to burn a little money on a CPU, else get a Venice 3000+.

I know the 3700+ will OC like a mofo, but the 3700+ is a better option for someone who is not going to OC because you get the higher clock and the 1MB cache.

3000+ and even the 3200+ is not a very smart buy anymore if you're not gonna OC the crap out of it. Just too slow at stock speeds to be future proof at this point.

Yeah Its hard to pick between the 3500+ venice and the 3700+ san diego. With overclocking put aside. Basically you have to ask yourself, is the 512 more cache on the 3700 worth the price difference. Personaly id say no. You can find 3500+ venices pretty cheap lately, around $200. Theres a guy on ebay who consistantly sells retailboxed 3500 venices for $190 shipped. I know you cant find the 3700 around that. Although, if there was definitive proof that the 1mb cache helped(enough to consider) in some certain situation, id be onboard for the 3700.

The only advantage of the 3700+ would be the extra cache, but with that big of a price difference it is not worth it if you are overclocking. In gaming it will make very little difference anyway.
