So, is cheap/value seen now as a dirty word? Should you spend big if you can afford to? Should you tell others you can afford to show off?

Personally, I wish more people were like you. It's not just a problem in the UK.

I think you should be able to spend your money any way you wish and can't really stand those who think it is so important to have the best of the best of everything - it's ridiculous. If you like what you have and that is what you wanted and you see no reason to change it - I don't see it as being cheap.

My 10 year old computer works just fine for what I use it for... until last year I still had my very old flip phone because it did everything I needed it to do and fit in my pocket.I had reason to upgrade it to an Android but it now doesn't fit in my pocket and that makes me sad.

I have family though that has the best electronics and update them whenever they can to have the better version and if you don't have surround sound you don't know what you're missing! - I had plenty of them laugh at/pick on me for my flip phone amongst other things. They like their bragging rights. Maybe that is why I can't stand those types...

actually I find no value in this thread...

if you have nothing of value to contribute to this thread, then don't post at all.

OP, keep it simple and do as you like. if you're happy with a cheaper alternative, so be it. buy an expensive one and you'll always worry about something happening to it. "the things you own end up owning you."
