Is USB 3.0 backwards compatible?

Is USB 3.0 backwards compatible with 2.0? I am thinking of getting a new laptop and I was wondering what the deal was with USB 3.0.

Yes fully. You cannot use USB3 cables on USB 2 devices but otherwise everything works fine.

Yep, but none of my computers Have PCI-e slots. Only way for me would be to get a new motherboard, CPU and memory.

I may do it next year (which is darned close).

Nope, there's plain PCI adapters available as well. Just more expensive and would honestly be better just to upgrade the MoBo, CPU, RAM. USB 3.0 speeds are definitely awesome though.
