Is US Mail carried mostly by commercial flights"

I saw on the US postal services' web site that FedEx is carrying a lot of mail because most commercial flights are still not very operational. Is this true? I thought the mail had some planes of their own?

Why do you think the price of stamps is going up? hehehe....

They do (actually thier fleet is contracted), but they also use lots of empty cargo space in commercial airliners.

US mail is carried by commercial planes because they're not allowed to own their own planes. Forgot why though.
