Is tuition still free for instate residents in california?

Isn't tuition for public universities free for california residents?? It was last time I checked in the early 90's. I realize you pay for books and fees but is tuition still free?

Try again moron, if you can't give a definate answer go away. I got some mixed messages and I think a lot of people were referring to the high fees (not tuition)and I think some were out of state residents.

I know for a fact in the early 90's tuition was 100% paid for by the state for residents at non private colleges. I'm just trying to find out if it is still that way.

I started in 1996, wasn't free. I knew a lot of friends from years before me, wasn't free either... It may be "free" in the sense that you don't pay anything, after you take out a bunch of loans and get some grants and scholarships...

There is not tuition at UC's for California residents. The fees to attend a UC for a state resident are ~$5000 + whatever specific fees are levied at a particular school. Out of state tuition is ~$12,000.

You're implication that college is free and your double thread is what's pissing people off, so wise up.

My friends graduated in early 90s from Berkley, UCLA, etc. It wasn't free for them. Maybe one of your buddies got a free ride based on academic achievement, members of some Native American tribe, etc.

I graduated in the late 90s, it wasn't free. Now, I'm going for another degree, and its still isn't free.


For the general population of California students, its not free.

I too would like to know if it was free during the early 90s. My siblings started college in the early 90s and they had to pay tuition.

Again, are you sure it isn't some rumour that circulated thanks to a socialist from the UK? :Q Or maybe you have the early 1900s mixed up with early 90s.
