Actually now it's less about how many kids a neighborhood has and more about how many givers. When I trick or treated we went on foot, door-to-door. Now parents shuttle their kids around in cars. They don't bother to stop for one or even two houses, they look for pods of 5 or 8 or 10 houses so they can hit a lot with one stop. Then they get back in the car and drive to the next pod. If you're in a cluster of houses with lights on you can get hammered and if you're the lone house on a block you can be ignored.

This was my first year in this neighborhood. Very few of the kids didn't have a car waiting out front for them. They pile out, hit the three houses with porch lights on, then bundle back into the car.

Very disappointing. I might not put the porch light on, next year.

That is so gay. I mean, as a parent, I'd be annoyed at that level of effort needed to drive them around like that. My kids would be going out and getting their own candy on foot.

I think part is location, and the other part is fear that parents have for their kids.

I don't think going by car is necessary bad. I used to hit up my neighborhood, and then after I begged for 1 hour, my dad would take me out to other neighborhoods. Since he didn't know the area, he'd slowly follow me while I was going door to door. In some areas, it was clear only ONE house actually was doing anything, so that would be a clear drop off and then back to "pile" in the car

God damn I missing trick or treating. If I ever have kids, which I hope doesn't happen at this stage in life ;) , I'm totally going to let them dress up and have fun, put out some halloween decorations, and have fun passing out candy. Probably have them join a bigger group of kids supervised by a responsible adult (one that knows you don't need to literally have GPS collars...you just need to keep track of where they are, and look for any assholes in the area that might cause trouble)

Give him his favorite toy, something to chew on, and let him chillax in a room for a couple of hours?

I'd say we had about 150 kids this year and ran out of candy by around 8:30. As others have said, it really depends on your neighborhood. My parents had maybe a dozen. Makes sense though, the development they live in was built in the 80's so most of the people living there are empty nesters. My neighborhood was built in the 50's and population is alot more diverse.

For a lot of years we have lived in the sticks and had no trick/treaters.
This summer we moved into the city and my wife was looking forward to them.
I bought 8 bags of candy because i wasn't sure what we would need and I didn't want to run out.
We have 7.5 bags left.

We had only ONE group show up to our house the entire night and it was a group of four in "lazy" outfits. I think this was the worst year with last year being only slightly better. Halloween where I live has gone downhill significantly since I was a kid.

How was the air in their tires?

So if they were driving, you would have gone over and checked?

If I happened to be talking to the person and I saw that their tires were under-inflated in relation to the door jamb, then yeah I'd mention it. The only time I'd bother mentioning the inflation to sidewall is when I'm filling up my tires and someone else comes by to inflate their tires as it would give me time and lend them motivation to listening about the pros and cons of choosing either inflation level. I'd hope we could agree that we'd rather have people driving around with their tires inflated to sidewall instead of under-inflated in relation to the door jamb.
