"Same few HUNDRED SONGS over and over?"

If you're getting a few hundred songs of your favorite music out of a normal FM radio station these days, consider yourself very lucky!

For sake of comparison, any Top 40 FM radio station would be lucky to get 10 songs (uncut) in a row in, before having to cut to 42313 commercials, and then playing the same 10 songs over again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

*edit*

Online...FM...what's the diff?

I think its because Ecstasy is losing popularity, and thats sort of a requirement for listening to techno.

Meth is one hell of a drug. And meth-heads listen to the sound of the cold rain pattering through their cardboard box.

I dont know any dance radio stations personally. Here in denver we have 1 hour a week of music and thats it. It is sort of underground but it always has been. I am always listening to new music, in fact I'm rarely listening to the same thing twice. There is so much material coming out all the time its hard for me to even keep up. John Digweed has his weekly show as a PodCast now and so do many others. I don't listen to trance but there is a ton of trance shows you can get all over the place, forums even like this that have stuff.

If you don't mind paying like $3-5 a month for music.

http://www.freshlymixed.com

has a HUGE catalog of music thats broadcast on all of the UK's stations for this music. I dont pay for the site because I used to be an uploader and provided a lot of music, but you can get any genre you want - Essential Mixes all the way back from 1993 - and of course its updated regularly with the new stuff. Radio1 and Kiss100 are radio stations that can keep you up to date, not American radio stations

EDIT: http://www.hybridized.org is another I can recommend. You can pay for this one too or you don't have to it just speeds things up. I don't pay for it but I get new stuff on here all the time. If you look around you can find tons of sites.

Your confusion is understandable, as they all do sound the same...

Armin and Above & Beyond are still cranking out great trance tunes on their weekly shows, so I'd say it's not dead. It's not nearly as popular as it used to be, but there is still a trance scene.

you can download the music if you want. but it's better if you buy it since you know what you're getting.

you can surf the net or go to sam goody, best buy is not the place for trance, their collection is limited and is arguably a terrible stocker.

mall of america is where I'd go. otherwise hit up some e-tailers, e-music sites let you DL your music.

never ever purchase trance if you haven't previewed what you're getting. If you know what you're getting, then I guess you don't have to listen to it before hand.

not all trance is good. it's like saying not all pop/rock or R'n'B is good. you select what you like. once you learn how to DJ, put the songs together and use beatmixing when you're ready to transport to a final product.
