Went last night, the only showing I could get tickets for @ noon was the 10pm show & they were sold out before the show started...

Forgive me for starting a TPOTC, I'm just curious if the continued packed theatres is regional or nationwide.

According to CNN, estimated ticket sales are only down 39%, much less than the usual 50% for a successful movie or 80% for a Gigli bomb.

I am beginning to see a trend where "religious" products will be a huge factor in the market..

I haven't seen it yet myself, but I'm happy to see Gibson be rewarded for creating something personal and original in direct opposition to Hollywood's attempts to cram ever more processed cheese product.down our throats.

I'm also glad Sofia Coppola won for Lost in Translation, that was another different, non-cliched bit of personal film-making, and Murray's best performance since Groundhog Day.

Nope, not here in North Jersey. Theaters are being bought out by groups for private showings, but other than that, it's easy to get in.

Friends of mine went on Fri. nite and Sat. nite, theaters about half full, they said.

Both sets of friends bought tickets for another movie and then went to the Passion movie instead, because they didn't want to contribute to the movie's massive box office grosses.

Lost in Translation was decent at best. The only redeeming thing about it was the great performance by Murray.

Coppola only won because of her famous name.
