i have a phone interview with VMWare today that im pretty nervous about! i think it would be awesome to work with them...anyone hear anything about their working environment? plus, Palo Alto, CA isnt a bad place to work either 🙂

phone interview is at 4pm CST. from the email it didnt sound like they were going to ask a lot of questions, just to 'discuss internship positions in the VMWare QA team'.

wish me luck!

UPDATE!!!

holy crap, that was intense. just finished up my 45 min phone interview with two QA engineerins at VMWare and they were really cool. they asked me a lot of questions about linux kernels and hardware support which i havent had a whole lot of experience, but i did my best. there were also a lot of, what i would think would be web based questions. such as how apache communicates with mysql, php and mysql interface, and basic web server setup. i did much better on those 🙂

after that we just spent 10 min talking about california and stanford and playing ultimate frisbee which helped me calm down again. they also had fun rubbing in how much nicer the weather was there than in wisconsin.

so now its the waiting game. thanks to all those who wished me luck

Good luck! Although since they've opensourced a lot of their products, I hope you get paid.

P.S.A. The latter sentence is a sarcastic remark and not to be taken seriously. Please refrain from e-thugging and thankyou for posting on ATOT.

QA for VMWare? Eww, that sounds horrible! With the number of guest operating systems that folks like me expect you guys to support, you'll NEVER get all the bugs fixed before the next release comes out!

yea, we'll see what all it involves if they offer me a position. my buddy is working at nVidia this summer so we are thinking if i get it, we could live together. is it a real pain to take the 101 from santa clara to palo alto? its less than 15 miles

Ha! I used to work in Mountain View near Moffett Air Field, and so I know that 101 is a nightmare during rush hour. Even when I lived in Palo Alto, I tried to avoid it like the plague.
