Is time spent on this forum fruitful?

I often browse this forum when theres nothing else to do, and read a lot, but in the end everything just breaks down into mudslinging. This isnt a forum for dialogue. Wouldnt it be better to read a book, or spend time with your kids, or your friends, or take a walk.

Although this is a criticism of the forum, enlighten me on what you gain from it? I find it hard to understand the "other side's" perspective in here as well..

It's pure entertainment for me. When I am not entertained or have something better to do I log off.

Every once in a long while, you might stumble on the odd piece of wisdom or an angle on a topic that you hadn't considered before. Of course, that's only if you're actually looking for it, willing to wade through the 99% that is pure BS, and actually consider the viewpoints of others. Else, you're just wasting your time.

If nothing else, it has partially opened my eyes to the world of politics. Sometimes, I wish I hadn't found it and would go back to being like the masses with government out of sight, out of mind and only trying to get as much for myself as I can. Still might.

Write a few letters to Senators and Reps now (and they have at least written back). Whether it helps or not, don't know but at least I'm making my voice heard.

And lastly, I have learned a few things and have even changed my view on several things since being here. Not many, but a few. There are a few here that always make pretty good arguements from both sides. Much of it's pure partisan politics of the worse kind though.

Topic Summary: what do you gain

A little bit of interaction with History rather than just watching it take place on the News.

After successful Brainwashing the folks in Germany in the 1930's didn't have this choice, they were only dragged down one way. The U.S. may get there too, just hasn't gotten quite that far enough of enough people affected yet but it is real close. One or maybe two more States converted and the U.S. is History.

Why not just join the Republican party? They rule the world at the moment.

Because in real life I am too happy. I come here in search of anger and hopefully get pissed off.

It allows me to peer through that window and to
view how some people can be dumber than a rock.

That is almost exactly what I was going to say ;)

Not really, I like seeing other viewpoints, even if I disagree. You never learn anything by just talking with people you agree with.
