so you got two spheres...one smaller than the other, one orbiting the larger, and that one, orbiting, one larger.. ie.. moon, earth, sun..

now, when the tide is in/out.. because of the moon orbiting the sun... shouldn't there be a wave that dips into negative and positive.... ie.. what pulls the tide, in, and out????

You can think of it as a gravity plow, plowing up the ocean surface. It would be totally wrong but you could still think of it in this way.

In my best news anchor voice: "In other news, scientists on the popular forum Anandtech Off Topic now report the moon is orbiting the sun! Back to you Diana."

Diana: "Bye moon! We'll miss you! Good luck out there! Bon voyage! Don't forget to write!"

Me: "I won't miss him. F. him. He's constantly mooning us!"

What if Jim Morrison had succeeded in his attempt to set the night on fire? How would we ever get any sleep?
