Is this worth using?

I'm visiting my brother and his wife showed me this package she picked up at Best Buy some time ago, evidently for $100 (sticker on the box). It's heavy like a big book and it hasn't been opened and she said she never did anything with it, figuring it would be complicated, or whatever. She said she was just going to give it to Goodwill and asked me if I wanted to take it with me. I'm flying, and although I can probably fit it in my luggage, I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble.

Is this similar to Photoshop (which I know is a premier if not the premier photo editing and manipulation/enhancement program) or is it really pretty weak? Is this version way behind the curve, in any case?

The digital image editing program I use mostly now is MGI Photosuite, probably a light version that came with my Samsung Digimax V3 3.2 megapixel digicam, and it's fairly rudimentary. I also use Imagein, which is kind of more powerful, but really old and came with my first scanner, which I bought around 1999 or so. So I guess this thing might be a significant step up. The system I use day to day is Beauty in my sig, which has 2 GB DDR PC3200 and a 2.21 GHz AMD Venice 3200+ CPU running XP Pro. Comments appreciated!

Elements has most of the functionality of PhotoShop. In fact, I would go so far as to say you can do anything in Elements you can do in the full version of PhotoShop just not as easily. Elements is not similar to PhotoShop, it is PhotoShop minus some masking, texturing and macros.

It was the best thing out at one point. . . It is still useful if you don't feel the need to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Thanks. I've got it packed and taking it with me. Leaving for the airport any minute...
