Hi @ everyone at Anantech !

Im about to build my next comp, and I want to overclock it to at least 3.6Ghz (400Mhz fsb), with stable 24/7.
Here my part :

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe WIFI AP
Corsair XMS2 Twin2X2048-6400 C4 (4-4-4-12)
Sapphire Radeon X1900XT 256M
Western Digital Raptor 74G
OCZ GameXStream 700W PS
Thermaltake Kandalf LCS

Is this build strong enough in to overclock at 3.6G 24/7 ?

Thank you ! :)

Why don't you put the system together, run SP2004 Orthos for 24 hours, then do the same for Memtest86, and report back.

Probably not. If you want/need 3.6 GHz performance, you've gotta pay for it. Overclocking is no longer skill, but just luck of the draw.

Chances of an E6600 hitting 3.6ghz for 24/7 use are VERY HIGH!

Just try and get the latest Week Possible.

It will say it on the box itself.....L6xx.............

Lemme know how that case turns out. I have the same one, but no processor / motherboard / memory / video card yet, so I haven't had a chance to put it together.

Considering you already have liquid cooling, you should hit 3.6 no problem.

Tx for fast response !

So ... some say yes it will, some say no it will not ...

Ill buy everything next week, so ill try it soon :)

About the motherboard, Im reading some reviews of the P5B Deluxe Wifi and the P5W DH Deluxe and I have a question about it :
Sounds like the lastest Bios of both motherboard give pretty good result in overclocking, but lots are saying that P5B Deluxe is better for 2Mb Conroe (E6300 and E6400) and P5W DH Deluxe for 4Mb Conroe (E6600,E6700 and X6800)

Any truth to that or both are good choice for E6600 ?

Yes it will just depends how good your cooling is and how comfortable you are with temps. That is the only skills in OCing anymore is how well you can get your case and processor cooled.

They are both a good choice, and if you want a really good choice that takes the good things of both buy the P5W64.

Cheers

You'll want the 975x chipset for the 4MB cache chips, and the P965 chipset is better for the 2MB cache processors.

dont forget it also depends on your CPU IHS flatness,
newest intel C2D IHS has bad quality control.
either concave or convex, altough many of them are flat.

i saw a few members has high temp when idling.

I don't agree.

I think we have seen that's not true.

Initially, people didn't understand the tricks of OCing on P965, which is why there was more success on the 975X platform.

One thing that would be an issue with getting to 3.6 GHz on the P5B mobos is the 1066 strap is in effect till 400, which means you'd likely have to drop down to the 7x multi to achieve that overclock more easily.

All you need to remember is that OCing on the P5Bs is easier once above 401+
So i'd get some RAM that actually overclocks, not that Corsair.

Just on a side note, what do you mean by latest week possible of the e6600? I guess look through the local dealer's quantity of e6600s and see which is newest? What would a better week be? Is there a reason? did they improve quality based on latest production? I had read it was that older ones were better but I might be wrong.

Yeah, the way to tell the manufacture date is to simply look at the writing on the chip and decipher it. The reason why newer weeks are better is because semiconductor companies constantly change their manufacture processes by a little bit to make better, faster chips a higher percentage of the time. Also, there is circuit rework that is done but that doesn't happen on a week to week basis. So generally, new chips are better. Not always, but usually.
