Sorry, I could have probably searched but I'm in a bit of a hurry.

Anyway, my buddy's old computer had a couple of problems...a bunk hard drive and a video card that's fan stopped working.

I swapped out the video card and swapped out the fan (needed to buy a new "cooler" since I couldn't find just the fan) turned the computer on, and pieces of the screen come up garbled, ie, "artifacts"...it gets through posting and just throws up a punch of unintelligble characters...

I'm assuming that it's something to do with it not cooling properly? Or the video card is toast...I didn't test it out prior to swapping out the cooler.

Thanks!

What kind of card is it? Feel the backside of the core when you boot it up. How hot does it get?

You might just need better cooling, or else you just didn't reinstall the heatsink properly. Otherwise, yeah, it's cooked.
