Is this usually how it's handled?

Bought a Driver side mirror for my car, the wiring has problem so I had to return it. Call them up today to check what's going on with my refund, the guy told me there is a big crack on the cover and want me to fax him the usps insurance receipt so he can claim it and then he will refund the money. Err...I thought the usps insurance is for the shipper to claim, I am a bit buffled now, should I fax him the insurance receipt?

Call your local post office, there's someone there that deals with this sort of thing. My guess is that this guy's trying to scam a claim for a broken POS that he sent you, so he can then buy a new one to send you.

Oh yeah, and I believe that either party can initiate the claim, but both parties have to fill out part of the form and sign it......if I remember right. Like I said, call your local PO.

Thanks.

That's what I've been suspecting. They see there is insurance on the package so they want to get the insurance money, and then return the item to manufacturer and get more money back.

uhhh...wouldn't you be the shipper in this case since you shipped it back to him and it is now cracked?

Yeah...so I was thinking I should be the one to file the claim.

Anyway, just off the phone with usps, it looks like it's better for the other party to file the claim because USPS will send out someone to verify the broken item and since the item is over there now, it's probably easier to do it that way.
