OK, i have the opportunity to upgrade mi main components, the cost of this upgrade is around 350-400 and i would like to get suggestions and recommendations, before making any decision, do you think this is woth it?

raidmax scorpio/ thermaltake 480 silentpower > Antec p180 + SEASONIC S12-500
A64 3000+ Newcastle >X2 3800+
MSI K8N Neo Platinum > ASRock 939Dual-SATA2
1 GB corsair value+ ocz platinum > OCZ Platinum Series 2*1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400

ATI Radeon X800XT PE =
Hp dvd640 =

P.S: My math is not that bad this would cost me that much because someone is willing to buy my current setup -video card, for the remaining 750-780

I am looking at doing a similar build in the next three months or so also ... my first AMD, and I have no idea how AMD 64 architecture works :( . I was looking at getting a X2 3800+, but with 1GB of Kingston HyperX 400 Dual Channel Kit, instead of the OCX.

Question I have still lingering in my own mind though is that the 'M' socket processor is going to come out in early 2006 to replace the 939 Socket, I heard. Is it worth upgrading now or is it better to wait until Jan?

What are your main uses for the machine? That is the most important question as to whether you should upgrade or not.

I just don't get your numbers - checking NewEgg, the cost of the CPU ALONE is $347 right now...but you are saying the total upgrade price is $350-400. What you have listed is more like a $750-850 upgrade ($350 CPU + $200 RAM + $100 mobo + $150+ case/ps).

At that price I would seriously consider getting a new LCD monitor and then waiting for the new M socket processors next spring, unless you REALLY hate the performance of your current system...btw, I also run a A64 3000+, so I've had the same thoughts...but will probably wait. Just bought a new mountain bike instead personally...

That is the whole point, my numbers are around that range because someone I know is willing to give me around 780 for my system with a 9600pro instead my x800xt pe and I would use that money towards the parts listed and a 9600pro, the money I have to add is around 350, but it includes a better case/power supply as well, and I don?t know if I shuold keep my system or sell it.

Then wouldn't you need to include the price of a new SATA harddrive in your upgrade costs, if someone would be buying your entire old system?
