i am a high school student. before you flame, consider that along with these circumstances. we are to write a paper about epidemiology and a disease. it counts for 50% of our quarter grade. we did not even recieve a rubric or product descriptor/criterium set to guage our progress/work. when we turned in our rough drafts we recieved a check on whether we did one or not. no comments whatsoever. am i just a product of an over-sensitive society, or is this uber-stupid/ghey?

The fact that you think you may be a product of an over-sensitive society proves that you are. :p

I would probably be a little ticked about not getting any feedback, but then I would remember that this is high school and that everyone else was in the same boat I was. Then I would stop caring.

What's the point of a rough draft if no one is going to critique it?

Sounds like you have a lazy teacher. At any rate, try to get one of your peers to review it and have them point out any flaws for you.

do a shitty job, turn it in a week late, and get a B. That's how high school was for me.

Makework. Just something to do, to prepare the students for a lifetime of other useless tasks that will be performed ad nauseum until retirement/death.

Sounds like you have a lazy teacher.

Bingo.

That's basically what I do.

Ditto. The other students are so unintelligent that I can totally lay back, and still make good grades. Not that I don't like challenges, but the things we have to do aren't challenging.

get used to it for college....

i had a class where your grade depended 100% on two tests.

and another where it depended 100% on one final paper.

There comes a time in life where you can't have your hand held through everything anymore. The teacher's job no longer is to teach you how to do something. It is then up to the teacher to see whether you're doing the work they ask or not. Your final draft is what gets graded, not your progress. Time for learning the system is over. Now it's time to put your content to the real test.

i dont care about the percent grade. and ffm, i dont care about the fact that my progress wasnt graded, as much as i care that we never got anything that DESCRIBED what we were to write about, other than what she talked about in class. sounds ghey to me, what about you?

Exactly. It can be frustrating, but it's how it goes. This is where you stand on your own.

Teacher gives topic. You write paper on topic. How hard is that? Are you asking if I think it would be better if the teacher gave your class all one specific topic to write about so she can grade 30 (or however many in your class) papers on the exact same subject, going over the exact same material regurgitated over and over again? If so, no. I like teachers who give a generalized topic, like disease, and let the students go from there.

you have no ambition, or care about your work it seems to me.
i would suggest you do the best you can and take what you can from it.
doing what most of the other people have suggested is stupid, and you will be worse for it if you take their advise.
they are giving you the slackers way advice.
just judging by the topic of your paper, i would guess that you are in an honors class.
just do your best and be proud of you work.

wait, in other words, your problem is that you have work to do and no one is willing to hold your hand while you do it?
