We are finally moving into this century. We just got digital cable and a dvr last week and now I bought this cheap hd lcd. I'll decide by tonight if I am going to keep it.

ASTAR LTV-32HBG

The price is after 2 $100 rebates. I will also be charging it on my AMEX so I get a free 2 year warranty. Since the store is only a few minutes from my house I don't have to worry about shipping/returns.

edit: SPECS

Astar is Soyo is GoVideo

I just bough the GoVideo 27" from Newegg.com for $400 after MIR. I love it. Sure there are little things I would like to be different but for $400 the quality is WELL worth the price. I'd imagine the same thing goes for this 32" Astar if/when the site ever gets back up.

its also $200 more (50%)

I'm suggesting other options.

The Microcenter Astar is actually $699 - $100 Manuf.MIR - $200 Microstar rebate. So you're locked up with $300 in MIR for a few months. On top of that, it's also a limited buy in store.

37" Olevia for $599 + shipping.

that's a monitor, not a television.

He has a cable box, he doesn't need a tuner.

I'm just saying you're comparing apples to oranges

You do realize that's pretty much the only difference between a HDTV and HD Monitor, right?

Correct.

My first "HD monitor" was a Westinghouse 32" which offered DVI, component, etc. Since it was "HD ready" it didn't include an HDTV tuner. Our cable company offered an HD DVR with HDMI but our LCD only had DVI. So I bought a HDMI to DVI cable, connected the audio and we were good to go. I'll never forget seeing "Lost" in HD for the first time, it was an experience.

I have to wait and see what Philips can come up with for fixing my tv. if they can't find a shop that does their warranty work that will come fix it for me, i wonder if they would repay me the cost to have it fixed out of warranty?

i wonder how much it would cost out of warranty? may end up just getting that 37" Olevia if the repair is too expensive.
