I've heard rumors that areas of Japan had 100 mbps residential service but I haven't been able to confirm or deny the rumors.

It's not free, about $60/mo actually for my 100mbps fiber.

i live in tokyo. to be more exact, shinjuku. easily one of the most populated areas. internet is fast as shit, but free? pft. you can find some cafes and shit that have free access if you sit close enough to steal it or buy a drink or something. then you've got net cafes. not free, but cheap as shit and fast as shit. good place to spend the night if you miss the last train too :)

just took this. right now it's peak time (7pm) so thats expected. not terribly fast but it's never slow, thats for sure. anywho, our provider (i live in a guest house with about 16 other people) is a local fiber carrier. i get about the same torrent speeds as toonces on a good day :D average is around 2-3 though

We've got that here in Hong Kong but I went with the cheapest service they had, 10 mbps.

We've got that here in Hong Kong but I went with the cheapest service they had, 10 mbps.

10 mbps is the fastest service offered by my local cable company. :(
