I find it to be true. That is why I limit myself to 6 hours of sleep per night.

depends on my sleep cycle
If I'm woken from deep sleep which is every 3 hours on my sleep cycle I get extremely tired during the day. If I wake up from light sleep, obviously in between the deep sleep, I'm good to go for the day. You just need to figure out your sleep cycle.

For me yeah. On weekends, sometimes I sleep more than 9 hours, but then I'm real groggy all day.

I have to sleep 7.5 - 9 horus, no more, no less.

Depends on how tired your body is and how much of your sleep is actualy REM sleep... Just go with your body... When you wake up, get up instead of lying in bed and falling back to sleep!!! There's so much fun to be had...OUT of your bed :D

I sleep 6-7 hours at night and still need a 1-2 hour nap during the day. I wonder if my future employer will accept the fact that I've grown used to the naps??

Sometimes maybe but for me generally no. WHen I was younger I'd get maybe 6 hours sleep/night and die around afternoon. Just die. Then later at night peak up again. Nowadays I get 7.5-9 hours sleep and I have constant energy throughout the day, but then when it's bedtime around 10:00 I start to die again!

Your body gets used to the amount of sleep you have (within a reasonable range). ANY change to the normal sleep pattern will very likely make you tired for the rest of the day. For example, suppose you normally sleep 7 hours a night. Then your body gets itself into a light sleep phase right around the 7 hour mark. Ever notice yourself waking up 5 minutes before the alarm? Well that is why - your body is signalling you that it is ready to get up. What if instead you only get 6 hours of sleep? Then you will very likely been in deep sleep at that point and you will feel tired all day. What if instead you get 8 hours? Well you would have missed your light sleep period and gone back into another deep sleep cycle - so again you will feel tired all day. Yes there is a small chance that you will have lucked out and timed it just so you wake up at a light sleep stage - but that happens infrequently.

The normal sleep cycle is near 2-3 hours. So if you normally get 6-7 hours of sleep, then you probably lucked out and woke up exactly one cycle early.

Summary: any change - less sleep or more sleep - is likely to make you feel more tired.

After boozing I often wake up at like 5:00 am and have a hard time getting back to sleep, but after lying there a while and finally falling back to sleep I'm good for another 4 hours.

If possible, you "get up when you wake up". If it weekdays (like now) and I wake up at 8am, hey, I wake up at 8. Yay. If it's weekends and I'm sleeping in, I'll aim for the next deep/light cycle in about 3 hours. 11am. If I'm really zonked, I'll wake up at 2pm.

/me doesn't know how the "sleep" thing works, it just does :p

Not necessarily. Some nights I can get 3 hours of sleep and be fine for another 21-24 hours. Other nights I can get 12 and be completely tired all day. But most of the time when I get more than 8 hours, I feel good all day. Today is not a good example of that. I find that I get really tired after lunch most days.

Yep. REM is also called "parodoxical sleep" because while your body is barely moving, your brain is very active, sorting out things that happened during the day into memory. So the more you sleep, the more REM you get, and your brain is going overtime and that's why you feel tired. I once slept for 14 hours and when I woke up, I felt more tired than I've been when I only had 2 hours of sleep.
