i have a AMD athlon 64 3400+ and i've noticed that it will get up to 47 C under a normal load. is that too hot? i have the stock heatsink and fan on, but i'm thinking about upgrading so that it'll run a bit cooler. i'd really like some feedback because i really don't know how hot is too hot. thanks in advance.

I'd think that's nothing to worry about. I've got an older (Palamino core) Athlon XP 2000+ that idles at 51 C and gets up to 59 C under some loads.

I have a P4 and I am at 47 under load. I have always heard people reporting much higher temperatures for AMD. Your temperature seems to be very good.
Are you sure about that temperature? LOL

It's an Athlon-64... their temps are closer to that of the P4 (Prescott excluded).

OK. Thanks. Obviously, my lack of knowledge on AMDs.

no, 40 is about right for an AMD system. You should be worried if you idle is around 50 and your load goes 65

And depending on your mobo, it could be reporting high so keep that in mind.
