iam like using a windsor 3600+ on a m2n-mx board with 4 gigs of 667mhz ram
and a 8600gt

and i was like wondering why i havent yet tried overclocking this

so i started overclocking it
and on a stock voltage of 1.25v and on stock speeds and stock cooling i hit a core temps of (54, 53)c

and i was like wondering r these too hot ??

and while i oced it to 2.25 ghz i got core temps of (56, 58)c

From what I remember, from the time I had a Windsor X2, it should be kept bellow 60 C, although mine was hitting 62 C or something like that and it didn't bothered me. If you want to do some heavy ocing on this chip, you would surely need an aftermarket cooler. Maximum temp for your chip is 72 C, if I'm not mistaken.

Glad to help. Anyway, that chip should max out at 2.6 ghz, but with that ram and mobo, you'll probably stay lower then that.

Those temps are fine @ 2.25; like error8 said, if you want to go higher get a better heatsink. You could probably get a good deal on a used AM2 cooler for <$15-20 that might let you get closed to 2.5, but the MB could limit that.

Personally, unless you need more than the 2.25 can provide, stick with that speed and be happy with a computer that was about to be scrapped. Good deal! :)

well now iam having plans like to seal it off(on ebay) and buy a ati 4870 but iam sort of emotionally attached

i just had a feeling that these numbers are very high (2.25 -2.0 ghz = 0.25 /2 * 100 = 12.5 % oc)

AMD Windsor processors use the Tcase and not the Tjunction to determine max temps. I believe AMD hasn't changed this fact, so use a program like SpeedFan or PC Probe to keep track of the temps. I keep my Windsor X2 3800+ @ 2.7Ghz under 55C F@H load.

yeah geokill u r write
tcase is what is being used
thats the reason iam posting this post as i thought that since the tcase is used max temps might be diff
