Is this the right memory for this config?

I'm going to buy a new system but I'm not sure about the DDR2 memory:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40GHz FSB1066 Box ? 225.50
Asus P5E iX38, SATA2 RAID, GLAN, 8CH ? 185.00
Asus PCI-e GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 2xDVI ? 216.00
Corsair 4x1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400 CL4.0 TwinX Dominator ? 176.00
Samsung 500GB SATA300 16MB FDB, HD501LJ ? 87.50
Cooler Master Midi Tower Centurion 5 ATX No PSU ? 48.50
Cooler Master Processor Koeler RR-CCH-LB22 Hyper 212 Intel & AMD ? 29.50
Eminent Powersupply EM3900 550W ? 47.50
LG DVD-/+/RAM GSA-H62NRB 18x/18x/10x Retail ? 31.50

Total: ? 1047.00

I'm thinking about overclocking the FSB to run the CPU on 2.8 Ghz.
Is this memory suited for the job?

Thanks

That memory is very nice and uses Micron ICs that will overclock well above PC2-6400. I would consider getting the PC2-8500 if your budget allows for an even higher overclock. Make sure that if you are to overclock the Dominators, that you have a fan blowing cold air on them as Micron ICs do get hot and can fail at high temps.

The Q6600 may well overclock upto 3.2 to 3.6GHz. Make sure it is well cooled.

The Dominator complements your rig well. A good choice of DDR2

Edit: To allow for ageing, reduced efficiency and the fact that you plan to overclock I suggest you consider getting a slightly more powerful PSU. Something between 600-650W will be just dandy.

Thanks for your reply,

I will use the ThermalRight Utra 120 eXtreme for PCU cooling (instead of the RR-CCH-LB22 Hyper 212) and two 120 mm fans to get a good airflow in the centurion case. The PSU tip is very much appreciated because I thought that 550W was a bit high. The dominator PC 8500's are 1.5 times as expensive as the PC 6400's so for now I'll stick with the PC 6400

One more question

What is better the better choise? (and why):

Corsair 4x1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400 CL5.0 QuadX Dominator $194.00
Or 2 X 2X1GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400 CL4.0 TwinX Dominator $150.00

using a ASUS P5E with Q6600 (see above) OS:Vista Ultimate x64

Those aren't Dominators man. They won't have Microns and it is probable that they would limit the overclock of your Q6600 due to all 4 slots being used.

If you want 4GB then I suggest taking a look at theseGSkill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ (2GB x 2) PC2-8000 (DDR2-1000) 5-5-5-15

You could go with 4x1GB Dominators / Ballistix or similar but check the forums for poeple with same ix38 motherboard you are buying. Some motherboards do not react well to having all slots full and it can limit overclocks.

The GSKill do not have quality ICs but will not work the memory controller so hard as they only occupy two slots. So it is either Microns in a 4x1GB or maybe the GSKill.
