Nope. That thread is from 2000, whereas the forums used to be hosted somewhere else in 1999 AFAIK. Notice the join date of Oct '99, and the post date of Dec '00.

This is the oldest accessible thread on THESE forums; the other two are in the mod forums.

Haha P3 and zip disks lol. Classic.

If the zip disks would of been more reliable, I wonder if they would of took off more. Those were so short lived. I'm glad I never bought a drive or disks. I had actually considered it for backups. I recall something called a Jazz drive too. I never used one though. (was it just another name for zip disks? They could hold 1GB)

yeah I remember back when we had ZIP disks that the Jazz drives came out and I totally gawked over them because they were significantly larger. Too bad they were so expensive and thankfully I didn't buy any, though that didn't stop me from being an idiot and buying a "Clik" Drive which too was an unreliable piece of shit.

So I'm guessing AT was started in 2000? Or was there a forum before that could not be imported over?

Still that's a old when you think about it, 10 years! I would of been 13, still playing with k'nex, lego and electricity, and knew nothing about computers.

Yeah, the Jazzs were basically removable hard drive cartridges. Zips were just big floppies AFAIK. CDRWs effectively killed them, I think more due to the cost of the media. Zip discs were $20 for 100mb versus about $1 for 650mb.

The forums had been going strong on their own servers using Fusetalk for months and months when the database had a nervous breakdown on, iirc, Oct 9, 1999.

Trying to sign-in that day, each of us had to re-register, which is why the earliest stated join date is now Oct 1999.

Btw, for those who may not know, AnandTech started out as a BBS hosted on Geocities in 1997.

Didn't you hear? I was around for the eager release of Windows 98 which sucked but thankfully had the Encore that was 98 SE and THAT was the GEM for the 9X series of operating systems. Just to give you a hint, I had a wee bit of experience on Windows 3.11 before we got Windows 95 machines.

WTF does this nonsense have to do with my question. How old were you in 2000?

You may have been "around" for it but I believe you were about 4 years old. You post this crap trying to seem knowledgeable like you did here http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2052127&page=3
but your "knowledge" really comes from a search engine. You are nothing but a poser. You have been kicked out of the Garage and I hope you are completely banned and the sooner the better.

It has little to do with anything, but fleabag being fleabag.....just living up to his name.

As far as his age, since he's a high school kid, even if he's 17, that puts him at most being 7 years old in 2000.

His wee bit of experience with anything computers, prior to his now finally nearing puberty, probably centered on "Oooooo, pretty pictures.....can I has them?"
