Is this the mobo or the PSU?

So yesterday I?m on my computer, and it suddenly makes a sound like when you hold down your power button and shut your computer off without shutting down windows. The screen goes black. I know it?s not a surge, since I?m on a suppressor. So I reboot and the monitor comes back on fine?so I figure no biggy. This morning I turn on my computer, and the monitor stays black, and tells me there?s no signal from the computer. So I take out the video card, inspect it, and pop it back in?and voila the thing works again. I shut it off before going to the gym, and when I get back I turn on the computer. I come back into the room a few minutes later and the screen is black. So I reboot, and I get the no signal message?I reboot like 3 more times and on the 3rd try it comes back on?only it goes blank again after about 90 seconds and makes that sound like it?s being hard-booted. I?ve tried all afternoon to figure this out. Sometimes when I turn on the computer the monitor gets a signal from the card fine, but when it does it only stays on for about 90 seconds and then makes that sound and the screen goes black. I?ve checked the 12V rail one of the times I had a working signal to the monitor, and it?s fine, and if it was the PSU I?d imagine all the other fans and peripherals wouldn?t work, and they all work fine. It?s not the monitor since I?m on my backup machine right now and the monitor is fine. So I went to Best Buy, bought a BFG 7600 GT or something like that, popped it in, and the same thing happened as before, so it WASN'T the video card this time!

That means it's probably the mobo right?

sounds like a mobo issue. fyi, just because your on a surge supressor or a ups doesn't mean you're safe either. small power variations over time can cause failing components..

get a new mobo :)

I'll play devil's advocate & say that it sounds like a dying PSU.
How about telling us exactly what components you have?

I second that. I have BFG 7800GS on a 775Dual-VSTA. If I'm not mistaken, that Video Card requires minimum 20A on the 12V rail. I don't think you have that with TP 420W.

And if it is close to that, 7800GS probably killed the PSU.
