Is this the end of the line for the Athon64 X2 core?

Not sure if they'll release any faster versions but do you think they might use more efficient cores in the higher end versions such as Brisbane and possibly add more cache? Has AMD issued an official stance on the future of the X2 line?

AMD will release a 5800+ (2.9 GHz, 89W) and a BE-2450 (2.5 GHz, 45W) next year.

Brisbane still has to hold the fort for another 4-6 months before Phenom X2 arrives.

I am impressed that AMD got such impressive results with the 90nm process. Lets hope their 65nm has the same success, even if its been slow getting out the gate.

I'm pretty sure they're making a dual-core 'Barcelona' that will be marketed as an Athlon 64X2. :light:

actually I think they are dropping the 64 because it doesn't mean much, and possibly to defferentiate between the two, also the naming system I think will be changed to look like their barc naming system. As to the core I think by the time phenom comes out (1-6 months) the 64 X2 archeticure will be dead.

they are going to make dual core cpus based upon the barcelona arch but they'll have a different name and will only be peripherally related to x2.
