I dunno how it is now, but back in the day AOL was THE place to DL various junk. Best part of AOL? No queues like IRC and you can't hammer AOL like you can a FTP. 😛

From what I remember...AOL has always been a laughing stock. I remember the first AOL user parody sites...those were funny.

I've actually found quite a few games and programs on kazaa, irc is much better for movies and the like. And of course its always nice to make a new friend with an ftp server. I tend to luck into great ftp servers, but I dont actively look for that stuff most of the time, not since I was in school.

For the longest time, I had good success with Winmx when looking for a certain song and Newsgroups for new stuff and whole albums.....

Also used Kazaa Lite..but now, almost every song I download off of Kazaa is a spoof...I must have d/l'd 30 different versions of the new Train song "Calling All Angels" before I found the right one....same thing with the new Third Eye Blind, Blinded song...it repeats over and over the same verse....

Any way to make sure what you're d/l'ing off of kazaa is the right/correct version and not a messed up spoof?? I checked the integrity box and select high, or something like that, but get no search results if I do...

And I have a good friend who swears by MIRC, but I haven't had the time for her to teach me how to yet...any good tutorials for finding songs on there??

imo DC++ is the best step up from kazaa - it's a bit more difficult to use but not as confusing as IRC to new users. You can find anything on DC++ providing you share a certain amount and have a decent connection to some good hubs. IRC on the other hand you have to know where to look in the first place.

I don't have any downloading programs on my machine, no such downloads, only stuff offered on the net legally. All my software was purchased. I have an expired version of atom time that has features disabled but still sets my clock. I suppose that's not really fair of me to use once every few months instead of picking up the phone and calling for the right time.

if you know how to use them / have access to them.. at least kazaa is easy for people......
True, but nothing sucks worse than piecing together an album on Kazaa and having track 1 @ 128, track 2 VBR, track 3 a bad rip, etc... 😉

usenet is pretty much useless with the spam invasion..have not used it since my aol days

there will always be a replacement

Found some Stuff about it. This too. Looks like kazaa might actually be shut down since they have been able to block old versions. What do you think? I figured it was a matter of time, supprised they havent tried to shut it down sooner.
What do you use kazaa for?

How can you people use IRC ... I've tried many times it's so hard to get a complete transfer. Usually in the channel there are 5 people serving and 200 people downloading so when I try to download something I get put into a week long queue. If I actually succeed in getting the transfer started it will surely download at some measely rate and disconnect me midway through. Have you guys tried direct connect? I use it all the time and I never plan to go back to IRC. The beauty is that most hubs have rules that everyone has to share a certain amount (unlike IRC, or even Kazaa where most people are leaching) so there isn't 5 million people all waiting to get the same file from the 1 guy that is sharing it. Has anyone tried IRC and DC, and preferred IRC? If so I would like to know why, maybe I'm missing something.

i use irc on a regular basis, usually get stuff at a transfer rate ranging from 150 kb/s to 400 kb/s. if you know the good channels, the good servers, and where to find quick, dependable bots, irc is a good thing. i usually dont waste my time with fserve's though. 56k kiddies trynna send out 600MB's. stick with DCC bots.
