Is this the death of kazaa?

Found some Stuff about it. This too. Looks like kazaa might actually be shut down since they have been able to block old versions. What do you think? I figured it was a matter of time, supprised they havent tried to shut it down sooner.

I guess it's a good place to keep all the newbies confined. 🙂

its still the best out there. edonkey.emule/gorkster/.... whatever else alll suck

Direct Connect is sweet but you gotta be on a college network to get good speeds. and Bit Torrent works well but mostly for anime

All the "good stuff" is on FTP/IRC/newsgroups... The P2P gets it eventually, but by that time it may be incomplete, virus laden, whatever...

DC is good for finding older stuff, and in the 130+GB minimum share channels, there are some goodies too. 🙂

What do you use?

Ive tryed to use newsgroups but generaly i just see a big clutter of crap...im prolly lookin in all the wrong places. But can you find everything in newgroups? If you ask me kazaa is pretty easy to use and fast downloads if ur looking for certain songs...but for albums it sucks.

surprisingly aol's piracy chatrooms like "cerver" and "mp3" are great for albums, easy to find, and fast download off of aols own servers 🙂...but then again im sure nobody will belive me.

FTP/IRC/newsgroups maybe better for compulsive downloader who download anything and everything but let's say you are looking for one specific thing, it's a real pain to track it down on places other than file sharing. My favorite is edonkey2000. Whatever I need I can get it in a couple of days, but it's nearly impossible to find on IRC and newsgroups because they usually only have newer things. As for FTP... well usually it's the same thing and if it's really good it's impossible to get in.

Or maybe it's just because I'm not into the scene enough to know more efficient IRC channels and FTPs.

I belive you...I know how to use newsgroups/IRC/etc, but a lot of the time i use AOL for those exact reasons. For obvious reasons (it is AOL, after all) most people have no clue how big or efficient the aol "scene" is. That's one of the few reasons i'm glad its the only thing my mom really knows how to use, which is why we still have it around...

if you think BT is only good for anime, you need to look around more. tv shows, movies, albums, software, games, etc... you just have to know how it works and when/where to look. i won't post any links b/c the mods may not approve, but it's quite easy to track down.

The vast majority (I'd be willing to bet 90%) of Kazaa users are there for MP3's. Simply put, like you and others have stated, it blows compared to other methods of downloading "stuff" other than MP3's. The reason Kazaa has the ability to offer downloads of other kinds is stupid users. They don't know the hot spots on IRC or newsgroups, because if everyone did someone would shut it down. Once the vast majority of stupid users gain access to broadband and such, the proliferation of "other" downloads on Kazaa will boom, regardless of the RIAA or other a$$-crack groups. If Kazaa somehow dies then something else will rise to take it's place. (Like edonkey2000 for ex)

I dunno how it is now, but back in the day AOL was THE place to DL various junk. Best part of AOL? No queues like IRC and you can't hammer AOL like you can a FTP. 😛
