Is this the correct thermal compound for AMD processors?

I am building a Thunderbird based system soon, and didn't want to order the over-priced Arctic Silver. Instead I was told about the Radio Shack compound, since it performs within a degree of the expensive stuff, and found this. I'm wondering if it is the right stuff.

Radio Shack Thermal Compound

Also, anyone have some good walkthroughs for installing all the hardware components, ie motherboard, CPU?

Thanks!

yeah bro, that stuff'll work

I don't know of any build-it yourself sites, I just started off by taking my already working system apart and putting it back togehter.

take detailed notes of EVERYTHNG you see, make sure the red stripe lines up with pin1 (HDD, CD-ROM and floppy), and ground yourself before touching any type of circuitry

Radio shack grease has a nasty tendency to dry out on amd chips, partly due to high wattage and small surface area/high clip pressure...

Yucky: I just want something temporary for a few months. Sometime I'll buy, or have sent to me, a tube of it, if the CPU is running too hot. Read reviews, and I don't mind the extra 2 degrees.

'Nother question: do you just put a "drop" on the CPU or should you rub it around to spread around evenly?

I have a reagent bottle of isopropyl alcohol in the lab, does it do anything like everyone says? If it helps, where do I use it?

spread a thin coat evenly over the cpu, then attach h/s/f to socket.
