is this the coolest digital camera?

samsung pro815

this camera is supposed to come out soon (hopefully this month) and it features a 3.5" lcd screen, 15x optical zoom, manual focus rings, macro mode, wide lens mode (28mm equiv.), and a longer than usual battery life, among other things. It is pricey though at around $850 MSRP!

But for me I don't mind splurging this kinda dough for such an awesome camera which is like a professional SLR system without carrying all the equipment.

I'm not a professional, just an enthusiast... LOVE photography.

Any pros see a problem with this camera ? It almost seems too good to be true and I'm not quite familiar with Samsung as a camera maker.

You forgot to say that it is 8 megapixels

I guess it doesn't really concern me too much... I'm happy with 3 or 4 megapixels for the size prints I make. But it sure doesn't hurt to have that extra resolution 🙂

Samsung doesen't exactly stand out as the digital camera manufacturer of choice, but hey, I'm all for innovation and competition.

Is it image stabalized?

Well that's the one potential drawback some camera previwers are pointing at. It does not actually have an optical image stabilization but it's supposed to automatically adjust to a really high speed mode which can bring ISO up to 800 which the camera makers seem to imply would render image stabilization redundant. And they also have some noise filtering algorithm to help with this too...

not bad, but it looks like an SLR. for that price, it may just be efficient to buy an SLR.

But that's the thing. you can buy an SLr for what, $500? But that's just the body. Then you need the lenses which are at least $400, maybe more like $700 or $800? One telephoto lens, one wide lens, one macro... or get this camera which has everything in one conveneint package

So true. You spend 800 bucks on a D70s body alone, maybe even another grand on lens...I love how that camera comes with everything.
