The switch+router (Layer 3) at my parents house is acting funky.
The whole house is Cat5e wired, and the modem is the blue linkys modem for broadband (about 2 years old) and the layer 3 is on top with 8 ports, 7 used (about 2 years old) and the switch is used for the DHCP. I have a access point pluged into one of the ports upstairs, DHCP disabled. My laptop wont connect to the access point at all, the only way i can connect to the WIRED network is to manually set the info.
I have tried my laptop in multiple outlets in the house and i get the same results all the time. It gives me an APIPA addy, but cant connect to the net. I have tried plugging directly into the switch and no luck.
I went to my school and plugged into their network just fine, no issues. I thought it might have been my laptop, but it isnt the case now.
My mom's computer is working fine though, this is what is bugging me. Her computer is set to use DHCP and she got a addy renew an hour ago (according to ipconfig /all). WTH
What i am thinking is that she is working off the cached ip's.
I am thinking that the routing tables on that switch took a hit and are done for. No major storms here in CO lately. They are not on a surge protecter though.......wait a minute.......note to self, PUT ONE IN THERE.
Any thoughts? Any still confused? I am dying for some input, please please help.
Edit: It was working perfectly fine last night.
