Is this spot to ground the mobo from shorting out?

I went to install a 8RDA+ in my case and the risers on the mobo plate scratches the back of the mobo putting a gash in it.

It didn't hit any traces but scratched a place out next to a hole that the screw goes through to mount the mobo. Just curious if right there around the mounting hole is important or just to ground the mobo. In other words if it gets scratched up would/could it affect the mobo?

The mobo seems to be working fine though.

I'm pretty sure the mobo doesn't use the chassis as an actual ground path for its electrical needs. The metal rings around the screw holes are probably simply for reinforcement, is my guess.
