Hi,

Before i call up the RMA number at IBM. I just wanted to check in w/ Anandtech to see what you think.

The story, I can be on my computer for a long time. I can have this computer running for like 3 days stright. All of a suddon. My hard drives will do this sound......

"Spin up"..."spin up"... "click, click click ......... Click click click"..."spin up"... "spin up".

And it will go on and on and on untill i turn my computer off for a wile and then turn it back on.

Hardware wise, FastTrak 66 PCI brand new, and 2 IBM 15GB 75GXP hard drives.

Broken or normal?

PS. this is wile i am on the Internet, or in Word or just having Win2K sit there idle.

don't know man, I am trying to get the same setup to work, can't even get the promise card to work 🙁

how did you manage it?

Click, click click I don't know about, but hard drives spinning up and down for no apparent reason could be the power supply. I had a power supply that once it got hot, the hard drives started spinning up and down on me. You might want to try a different power supply if you got one handy.

I currently have the same setup with no problem at all. Try the latest bios and drivers overclocker.. it helped me out!

If both drives are making that sound it sounds very unlikely that it would be the drives, two drives, broken the same way and at the same time, the odds cant be that great, to say the least 🙂

It's the power supply, my hard drive did that to me too. It was a really really hot day and i kept my computer on for quite a while and its started clicking, first i thought it was soemthign rubbing on my gorb, but it was the drive. Took some time to let it cool off and get going again. However i had 2 hard drives in there, the main was fine the slave was the evil one. Mainly i think it was too hot, it only happened to me once on a hot day. U might want to try a fan blowing out of the airholes in ur case, it drops the overal temp of ur comp quite drasticly.

Thanks for the replys.

I am thinking it might be the PS too, only because i had a problem 2 months ago trying to get it to work with a ABIT VH6. The ATX connector got messed up from that motherboard and took an hour to get the PS working again in my BX computer. I thought it was my LS-120 going bad at first but then disconnected it but then it started up again. So, yeah i could be the PS, i am getting a new one on the way! Its a Evermax 350w. Should be more then enough. I'll keep the drives a little longer and see if it develops any new problems

But the computer works perfectly for hours then the problem starts.

Sunner, i have very bad luck!!! I have had nothing but DOA parts from Mwave.com. I don't know if i am cursed but i went threw 4 other HDDs and 2 FastTrak cards because they were all burned out. Even the tech guys at Mwave agreed.

I can never win 🙁 !
