Is this sign of hard drive going bad?

I have a WD 160GB IDE hard drive with two paritions which has been working properly using Windows XP Pro for more than a year. Lately, now and then when I try to power up the PC, it does not go past the BIOS screen and I some message that Master Boot Record not found. In those cases, I switch off the PC, wait for some time and when I boot-up, it works.

I ran a CHKDISK with fix errors option and it did not seem to find any problem. Just to be safe, I have copied the important data to another drive.

What can I do to fix this problem? I can not seem to reproduce this error on every boot-up.
Thanks.
