Is this Sempron something new?

It is cheap but 512K cache is really crippling these days. Better AND cheaper can be found on ebay.

Its Sempron 140's with basically half the cache disabled. So you may be able to unlock the cache/core. I'm pretty sure AMD wouldn't make a new die for a one or 2 sku cpu line.

So it is basically a new sku on the original Athlon II X2 core. AMD just disabled 1/2 the cache (and of course a core). The performance difference is up to 4%-8% or so compared to 1mb cache. So not a huge loss. Games will see the biggest difference.

Hopefully my info is accurate. 🙂

thats oem so just throw in the cost of a $15 heatsink and you may as well just get the retail 140

There is some speculation that it might be a propus die with 3 disabled cores. I doubt it because iirc we never saw a dual core propus and logically we'd have to see that first. It is kind of sad that AMD has so many partially failed chips that they have to resort to this level of harvesting. In order for a dual core 1M cache chip to fail this bad it has to have a bad core AND bad cache on the 2nd core.

Considering how long they've been producing, my guess is they finally had enough stocked up to justify a SKU. Sad would have been the Sempron 140 having only 512kb.

I was looking at that, just get the 140. It's been shown to unlock and it comes with a heat sink if you don't already have one.
