is this router any good?

I've heard fairly good things about D-Link, but I've personally never used them.

Although, I can give advice on brands I have used:

NetGear: They work well... for about a year. All of my NetGear components work very well and end up quitting or starting to act up after about a year, so I tend to try to steer clear.

Linksys: Their firmware seems very buggy in almost every single device I've ever owned (bar the small things such as switches, those've always worked great). I remember going through two Linksys routers before and they both kept messing up every day. Now I run a Linksys router again (God knows why...) and it's yet again being a pain.

for the price I wouldn't bother. Unless you just have it to spend. I'd just get one of the cheaper models.

Cheaper models don't have gigabit.

OP: If gigabit is the objective, then it's great (i have it, & man does that improve transfer speeds from PC to PC).
If you're just doing web stuff, no in home networking, it's not worth it.
You could get a normal G or even the pre-N routers for less then with better results (just no gigabit of course).

Also, i don't think it's just one brand of routers that die after a year or two.
Seems pretty much all consumer level networking routers/switches/modems/hubs have the tendency to die within a few years from what i've seen...

Looks great for the money Reviews are good too. But I am sure you will have a get a compatable wireless card too...

And if you have more than one computer (main reason for having a router), make that compatible wireless cards. 🙂

Yes the DGL-4300 is a good router, but if you gave a better indication of how it's going to be used and what else you'll have on the network, then the advice might be better.

I like mine

pros:
good user-interface
reliable
good wireless connection but if your like me and prefer wired 🙂
overall nice look

cons:
the blue LED lights are BRIGHT might annoy some people but nothing some black electrical tape can't fix if needed
the router has to restarted for minor changes but after getting set it's very reliable

I've installed many of those routers for customers & had very few problems ... the wireless signal is very strong & range is decent, especially when used with the matching wireless adapters & they seem to suffer far less from dropped-signal problems that are common with low-end routers, plus they are easy to configure. Gaming mode doesn't do much for you, but the gb switch is nice for boosting wired LAN speeds.

You could however save about $60 & go with a lower priced model & still get very good performance... out of cheap router brands I've had the best luck overall with D-Link, Belkin & somtimes Buffalo.. personally I'm not crazy about Linksys or Netgear anymore as both seem to die faster then the other three, with Netgear in particular causing headaches whenever I have a customer insist on getting one.
