Roller blades: check.
Weed wacker that the motor works on, but is otherwise broken and can be used for some other project: check.
Old razor scooter: check.
Spare time: well, I can find some.

Is this thing road legal??

I thought I was going to see a picture of a road overgrown with weeds that one would need a weed wacker to go through. This is better.

hah, thats a lot cooler than i had thought before clicking the link. Since the person is wearing rollerblades, probably can just use the weedwacker motor for momentary pulses of speed, then just cruise along.

I'm about 20 feet in elevation above where I work (4 miles away) - but there are a few minor hills on the way to and from work. This would be a pretty geeky way to commute to work in the morning - no sweating.

I dunno, that looks like it could cause some major trauma to the genitals if you made a misstep with it...

And you could teach your students about the mathematics/geometry/physics involved. Unless you're no longer a math teacher, I forget.

Yes, math and physics.

Tomorrow's physics class entertainment: a video of a plane landing on the roof of a camper. We're just starting on forces, so of course I'll be covering the plane on a treadmill problem. Interestingly, many of my students had heard of the problem; not many know the correct answer and why.

Just making sure, plane DOES take off, correct? (Jets move plane, not wheels)

It's hard to explain the plane/treadmill scenario properly without giving away the correct answer. I found this out when bringing it up among friends; you can either state the problem in a way that alludes to the correct answer, or supply it simply and let them provide a naturally counter-intuitive incorrect answer.

Have you thought of a lab experiment for it? That would be interesting.

It seems like it would be safer to have the weedwhacker pull you instead of push. Then you could use it to steer too

Anyone who would use that contraption without a full face helmet and some armor is a fool.

Thing is, you need weight on the drive wheel and something to support yourself on. Having the drive wheel in the back satisfies both of those requirements. Otherwise the wheel would just skid and bounce on the road.

With that I'll be able to tell future employers that I do have reliable transportation.;)
