i downgraded from Windows 8 to 7 and DXDIAG lists my total video card memory at 2256 for the R9 280x. GPUZ says i have 3072. Whats wrong?

Probably nothing is wrong. Did it show the correct amount before the OS downgrade?

Are you using the newest Catalyst drivers?

Does it show the correct amount of VRAM in screen resolution -> advanced settings?
