i just installed a 9800 pro 256 and in the device manager the 9800 pro is listed twice one saying "9800 PRO" and the other saying "9800 PRO - secondary." is it supposed to be like this? i ask because whenever i try to run doom 3 it crashes before it even launches the game, and the only reason i can think of why it would do that is because of this. im currently running on the catalyst 4.7's on an xp2600+ with 512mb of ram.

As Jmman said all 9800's have that. Probably for the two video ports on the card. If you purchased the game call Activision support.

Install 4.9b
DIII crashes with some radeons with 4.7

I believe the 9800 Pro Secondary is for the dual display function. If the card supports dual monitor, it will have Primary and secondary listed in the display device manager

All ATI cards are like that. The second device listing is for the dual display function. To fix the problem i would recommend using the latest drivers and if that doesn' work ive the omega drivers a chance they are pretty good.
