At www.datorbutiken.com they say that Alpha PEP66U ver. 2 max can handle a 1.2Ghz Athlon equipped with a Sanyo Denki fan. I thought the alpha pep66 was one of the better heatsink to get.

the sanyo denki fan doesn't push all that much air, it focuses on being quiet. Alpha needs to come up w/ some new designs

RichieZZZZ,

That's one of the most ignorant statements I have heard in a while? Because their heatsink can handle high heat output and still work effectively with a quiet fan makes it a bad design? WHy do they need a new design when they still have one of the very best coolers on the market?

And add in the option that if a user doesn't mind hte increased noise, he/she can add a different fan to the alpha and improve its performance. Its performance with a 20CFM fan is pretty damn good.

Mike :)
0.35 C/W, with a sanyo denki fan that pushes 18.7cfm, yumm!

Still one of my favorite heatsinks on the market just wish it was bigger like 80mm tall and wide. :p
Im looking to mod an old Alpha 3125 slot heatsink (looks like two PEP66, side by side) on my future athlon system, if i can figure out how to support it like the MC462.

You read my responce the wrong way, I'm not saying its a bad heatsink. In fact I have a Pal35, I'm just saying they need to release some new stuff. I'm sure for most ppl the alpha works fine but there are better solutions. Looking at the new heatsinks, for example overclockers.com has tested that new millenium heatsink, they report a C/W of .13 to .18.
