not with a single 570, max settings. u need more gpu beef

This is asking a lot but, can you please try and help me out a bit. I am trying to build my son a PC for his 12th Birthday and am totally lost.

these are the specs he said he wants.

if you could leave links for every thing I might need like speakers, monitor, case, ram,CPU,GTU, etc...etc...

and if the games like BF3, MS3, Skyrim, ran at above 45 FPS that would be Great!!!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. 100% HC gaming games like BF3, MS3, Crisis 2, Skyrim,

2. What YOUR budget is. no more then $1200 including tax

3. What country will YOU will be buying YOUR parts from. USA

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Nope

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
None

*

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds. over clocking

8. What resolution will you be using? 1980/1280

9. WHEN do you plan to build it? NOW!!!

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

BF3 if possible for less the $40.00

Your system should be able to run it at max settings at 1080p with 0x AA 0x MSAA with an average of 45-60 FPS.

I could run it with a 2600k @ 4+ + 6970 stock at those settings with average FPS around 50-60+.

However, I had set CCC to max performance and no AA, but max in game.

Your VRAM amount might become a bottleneck with a GTX 570 perhaps, though I am not sure.

I would recommend to go for a 7850 or 7870 and overclock it past 20%+, that would be far more powerful and manage what you want.

Going to a 2500k instead and overclocking it past 4+ GHz might not hurt much either, perhaps.

If you are spending that kind of money, rather go for a 7950 and overclock it, it will equal a stock 7970 and that can run BF3 with 4x AA as well, with a minimum of 60 FPS.

My 7970 @ 1125 1575 + 2600k @ 4.3 + 16gb ram run BF3 at 1920x1080 4x MSAA 4x/8x AA, with minimum FPS about 60 FPS and mostly 70s and 80s even during fights. This is a single overclocked card. But this is like 50%+ faster than a single stock 570 with the overclock, maybe even 80%+ faster.

Crysis or Crysis 2 won't run on max with a minimum of 60 fps.

On my setup Crysis 1 is at best playable at 1920x1080 V High no AA, (oced card), minimum is in the 40s, rarely 30s. Average is around late 50s or early 60s. But just about okay.

Crysis 2 may be a bit worse in fact, perhaps.

Skyrim I can run with 4x (don't remember if it was 8x or not, probably 4x) AA(not sure MSAA or AA, probably MSAA) at 1080p with minimum FPS sorta capped at 60 FPS. Everything ultra, with his rez texture pack as well.

But all this is with an overclocked 7970.

So I hope you get the point.

Anything below a 7870 overclocked won't cut it for you,

A birthday PC for a 12-yo? Why does it need to run at max settings? (I'd also rather teach the kid to value gameplay over eye candy :p)

So $1200 needs to include the PC and the peripherals and Windows too?

I highly recommend NOT spending $400 on a GTX570. Wait about a month and people will be selling off their 570s/580s/6950's/6970's dirt cheap. Some have already started.

Thanks for all your help.

I am making him this PC with such max settings so he don't ask for another one:cool:

So my set up is fine exempt the graphics card and ram?

P.S. Do higher quality monitors come with speakers?

And would it be better just to get a i5 2500K? and save $100 on it?

Absolutely. Could shave off the cost in other parts as well without losing anything significant - but before I suggest a build:

No just the PC I Have a monitor. And I have windows 7 HP.

Again I am in a bit of a tie here, so if you might be able to suggest me a rig that can run Crisis 2 on max settings with at least 45-50 FPS that would be great.

Thanks.

CPU - i5-2500K $200
Cooler - Hyper 212+ $23
Mobo - Asrock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 $110 shipped (no SLI/crossfire), or EVGA Z68 SLI $110 AR, or Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 $130 AR
RAM - 2x4GB G.Skill Ares 1600MHz $45
HDD - 1TB Seagate 7200RPM $98
DVD - Samsung DVD burner $16
PSU - XFX 650W $60 AR
Case - Corsair 400R $90 AR

So far that's $642 AR incl. shipping. Leaves you plenty for a video card, which is after all supposed to be the most expensive component of a gaming build. But I'd recommend against going overkill on that one. I'd go for the 7850 ($250 ?) or 7870 ($350 ?). Both overclock very well and consume little power, so it'd be possible to crossfire them later on the XFX 650W. The 7850 performs nearly as well as GTX570, the 7870 is better than GTX570. But they're not released yet, so if you have to buy now... Well, MSI GTX 560 Ti 448 Cores PE/OC for $270 AR, Asus GTX 570 for $330 AR, or a rather overkill XFX 7950 for $480.

Thank you so much, I had a few parts picked out that were more $ and not as good as the one you stated.

1 more thing, Can this setup run Crisis 2(HIGH/ULTRA setting with 60+ GFPS?) If it can then BF3 will have No problem handling this.

Thanks again.

Which setup? He suggested 5 different gpus and you didn't pick any yet.

Google reviews for the different video cards to give you an idea of the performance. I think 7850 and 560 Ti 448 should do 60fps avg on medium-high in BF3, and high/ultra in Crysis 2. BF3 is a more demanding game. 7870 might do 60fps on ultra in BF3, and 7950 will easily run anything on max.

If you factor in overclocking, 7850 shouldn't leave u wanting for more performance on 1080p

Lehtv's build looks good, personally I would go with the GTX 560 Ti 448 if I had to buy right away. Then take that couple hundred bucks you save and put it towards and upgrade two birthdays from now.

I would but what would be the FPS of this graphics card & computer specs on BF3 or Crisis 2 Ultra settings

As I said, google reviews to find out an idea of the performance in specific games. But alright, I'll do your research for you.

Some things to keep in mind:
- on 1920x1080, you'll get ~10% better framerates than on 1920x1200. (1200/1080 = 1.11)
- the CPU here is an older gen i7-965, and the 2500K is slightly better in games at stock, and overclocks better
- this is the average FPS of a short timedemo, and may or may not accurately depict the average FPS throughout the game
- this doesn't tell you what the minimum FPS is, I'd expect that it may drop to the low 30's occasionally without OC; as for maximum FPS, you're probably going to see solid 60fps pretty often

Do you play for fun or competitively? I run BF3 at ultra low, native res. So it's easier to see people and my FPS is at a solid 60.

Ok, so I went Overkill for my son.

These are the specs I used.

Intel i5 2500K (I might over clock)

Aftermarket Hyper 212+ cooler

ASRock Z68 PRO3 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.

G.SKILL Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600

1TB Seagate 7200RPM HD

Samsung DVD drive.

XFX 650W PRO650W Core Edition Single Rail ATX 12V 53A 24PIN ATX Power Supply

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0

And finely my son said he wanted this Graphics card. (He pitched in a 100 bucks)

XFX Radeon HD 7950 Core Edition 800MHZ 3GB 5.0GHZ GDDR5 DVI-DL HDMI 2XMINIDP PCI-E Video Card.

I am going to be playing BF3 when he is at school thats for sure. :p:p:p:p:p

Thank you all for all your help.

Hm, well the 560 Ti 448 does what you asked

and if the games like BF3, MS3, Skyrim, ran at above 45 FPS that would be Great!!!

So I don't see why you don't settle for the 448, other than because your son said he wants the 7950.

Anyway, hf building it  Post back if you run into problems

Nice build, I don't think you'll go wrong getting a HD 7950 over the GTX 560/570 as long as you have the $. The memory will come in handy in the future. Bump up the clocks a bit and it'll be considerably more future proof.

Would be more future proof buying another $250 graphics card in 2 years time rather than spending $500 on a graphics card in the hopes it'd last 4 years. You should decide which card to buy based on price/performance and the level of performance you want now

a 7850 will run BF3 Ultra without any AA/MSAA at 1920x1060 with an average of 60+- FPS.

Crysis or Crysis 2 won't run on Ultra 0x AA even with a 7970. My 7970 1125 1575 has minimum FPS in 40s (rarely 30s), avg around 60 FPS with Crysis 1 at 19x10. A stock 7970 will be about 15-20% slower, and a stock 7950 will be yet another 15-20% slower, so a stock 7950 is like 35-45% slower than my GPU and I only get barely playable speed. This is without any form of AA.

So if you want to play Crysis or Crysis 2 with a VFM card, bring down the rez to 14x9 and remove any AA, Shadows/Shaders might not max, but the rest will be maxed with a min of 40-50 FPS, even with a 7850. Even Metro 2033 won't max out, not even with my overclocked 7970.
But BF3 ran at max even with my 6970 and a highly overclocked 7850 competes with a GTX 580, a highly overclocked 7870 competes with a 7950 stock.
And a highly overclocked 7970 nearly goes as fast as a 6950 CF stock.
