Is this reduced *functionality* mode? I dont know

Picture here

If it is, then advise what i can do. This isnt my laptop and im nowhere near it, its a friends.

If it isnt, then do the same lol, is it a virus or something?

Apparently it dosent ask for activation or anything but the desktop has dissapeared and so has everything else. Is there any surefire way to find out if this is reduced compatability mode? I know this was removed in SP1, so is there any way to upgrade it from its current state?

I have not seen SP1's reduced compatibility mode, and while that certainly looks a heck of a lot like RTM's reduced compatibility mode I concur with the opinion that it was removed in SP1. If it was reduced compatibility mode, it should have told you. If you can bring up the System control panel, that should be able to tell you your activation status and in turn help you figure out what the heck is going on.

Ya that is pre-SP1. Ive directed the guy to download SP1 and install it, hopefully vista wont make a big deal of it, it will remove this functionality mode and give him some nagging popups instead.

If its failed ill ge him to find the control panel. Is there an easy way to get to it? Maybe something that can be typed into the cmd window? Because its difficult for him to find out where stuff is, it would be easier if i could just say hit window key + r then type xyz.

BTW ive been saying reduced compatability mode, its reduced functionality mode apparently lol. I fixed the thread title.
