Is this really necessary?

At least 2 people have in their sigs a link that logs you out of Anandtech if you click on it, although it says it's something else entirely.
Is that really necessary? I click links in people's sigs all the time just to see what they find interesting, but that is a bit annoying.

Search and you would have found that it is an offence that warrants vacations here at AT>

Ok, here's a thread with 2 posters that have the same sig that logs you out

Then PM a moderator about it, or the best thing would be to PM those users and ask them to remove the links.

are you speaking of a lifer Ameesh
and a senior member xEDIT409

I would think a lifer would know better but sometimes the longer you go the dumber you get.

Of course, if you had half a brain, you would hover over the link before clicking and see that it goes to forums.anandtech.com/logout.cfm and you might have an inkling about what it really does.

It may be a banworthy offense, but I'd be embarassed to admit that I fell for it.

Now was that called for? Keep insulting people's intelligence and you will be shown the door permanently. You are very near that already.

Thanks for understanding

Hadn't seen that before, but that doesn't seem like a nice thing. Not exactly the worst thing in the world - like some link that takes you to a popup hell-hole. It was something with Flash that pops up 5 new windows for every one you close. Using Ctrl-Alt-Del to terminate the iexplore.exe process was the only way to stop it. Nearly crashed the PC, and I lost what I was working on. I believe the user that posted that received a lengthy vacation.

Ouch!
Sorry, I'll be more tactful next time.

No! the one with 1/2 a brain is one that would condone anything that is against the forum rules.

Never said I condoned it. The only thing I condone is a "Look before you leap" policy when it comes to clicking on links.
