Is this RAM any good?

I've got a Dell SC240 (from one of their promotions), and need to get some ram for it. It will take DDR 400Mhz or 533Mhz, but I've found that the latter is much more expensive. I'm not looking to OC, just for something that has a solid warantee and will be very stable.

Is This ram (on sale at newegg today) any good for that purpose?

How about This OCZ?

I'd like to spend around $80 or less (for 1GB), but am kind of flexable if that's what it takes for stability.
Suggestions? Are either of these links ok?

I got the Corsair RAM a couple weeks ago .. it is nice memory. DOn't expect a big OC, but will OC some. The meoory is fine at stock speed.
 
Both are great for what you are looking for. Unless of course you need ECC then niether will work...

They do, but they also take non-ECC, as long as you don't mix. and ECC is way more expensive... and i'm cheap 😛
 
Dell SC420 servers are VERY fussy about RAM. I'd go to Corsair.com or Crucial.com and use their online database to find the EXACT modem number for the memory that's guaranteed to work in in. Also check the manual as their are restrictions on the memory configuration - the SC420 requires 2 sticks in some configurations.

Frankly so many people bought these rigs and swapped out the RAM, that you can buy original RAM for them very inexpensively through Ebay. Just do a search for "SC420".
 
Do these MBs require "Registered" memory?
The memory linked in the first post is DDR, but the ebay search comes back with DDR2. :roll:
 
Here's the output from Dell's memory selector -- cruicial and kingston's don't list the SC420. I take it this means it takes standard DDR2 ram? or is there anything else I should look out for? I wonder though -- when I was configuring the system, I picked out 533Mhz ram (over the 400Mhz standard). These are at 667Mhz.... is there any reason to bump it up? I feel like faster memory is just going to downclock in this system.

i would say the corsair...those machines are very fussy about memory...as someone said...

Yes, it does use DDR2.

 
OK, so now i'm down with the DDR2, just a few more questions: What's the difference between PC2 4200 and PC2 4300? Should i care?

and on that note, what do we think of these sticks?

Mushkin PC2 4300, $80

PNY PC2 4300, $80

any of these from newegg? PC2 4200

I know some brands are better than others for various types of memory, but I really don't have any feeling for it. Any recommendations would be great, I'm looking to spend about $90 or less, and not planning to OC.
