My sister's friend told me he has DOOM3 and it is running perfectly at 1024x768 Ultra quality.
He has a Dual Athlon 64 3500+ and here's the shocker, a Nvidia 5600 Ultra rev. 2 128 MB.

Obviously the question is the 5600 Ultra. Even if the second version is faster then the first isn't it still to slow to play DOOM3 well. He may have a nice CPU setup but I think he will be 100% GPU limited at any setting.

Also, I know DOOM3 is better with nvidia then ATI but is there any chance that he would be faster then a 9700 Pro running on my Athlon XP 3200+?

That and you cant get dual A64 3500s. They dont have more than 1 HT link. Same with the FXs i think, Opterons can do dual, as they have 2+ HT links, more depending on the model.
Hes either pulling your leg, or talking out his ass.
Im thinking the latter.
Even a 9600 128mb would do 1024x768@Ultra better than a 5600.
Hes probably talking out of his ass again. That or you misheard and he said a 5900 or something like that, and even they would struggle at that.

I mentioned that he would need opterons for dual processors, and he could not tell me for sure what he had.

And he was quite convinced and seemed to know that he actually had a 5600 Ultra with only 128 MB.

Well, he did say he was running it, but that doesn't necesarily mean it runs well. Everyone's opinion of acceptable performance is different. I knew this one nimrod who claimed that the original Unreal ran "smooth as silk" on his P166+Voodoo1. His idea of "smooth as silk" is equivalent of mine in regards to 400grit sandpaper.

he just isn't bothered by the massive chugging that happens when he trys to run nearly 500mb in texture data on a 128mb card.

Second - 5600 U 120MB and ultra deatails? and he remaked the toxtures of Doom so they have got 0.005 kB? :)
