Is this problem Hardware, or software related?

I just reformatted my system and I am trying to reinstall Windows XP pro. For some reason I cannot reinstall. I am getting some diffrent errors. Sometiems the CD wont load at startup, it says NTFL missing or somethign like that. After a few boot ups it will enter the Windows Setup but a few times when I tried to make partitions it gave me a blue screen saying my computer has been shut down to protect it. When I make it after the formatting into NTFS, it begins to copy Windows files. I either get a error sayign a file did not copy correctly or another Blue screen.

I dont know what the deal is. I have used this Win XP cd many times without a problem. There are no scratches on the Disk. I ran the maxtor software on the hard drive and it says it is working properly. All IDE cables are plugged in correctly.

What could be causing this problem?

AMD T-Bird 1.4
MSI KT333 Ultra-R
512 Crucial DDR PC2100
Maxtor 40gig 7200 RPM
Radeon 8500LE 128meg
Soundlbaster Live!
Creative CD-RW

To me, it sounds like you have some left over software on the HD that's interferring with your install.

Have you completely formated the drive/partition you're trying to install to?

I first used KILLDISK on it which is the best may to format, you cannot retrieve the files on it with a program, like you can with a normal format. And then Windows Formates the drive again before copying files.

I have tried a diffrenty hard drive and a diffrent cd rom and it still wouldnt work. I tried using my hard drive and another motherboard and it worked. So it is a Motherboard problem, how can I fix this? Anyone know if I can do it without sending the mb back?
