I was looking up some decent pre built gaming desktops and i saw one that has an AMD Ryzen 5 X
processor, 8 gigs of ram (doesnt name the brand), an nvidia geforce gtx 1060 6 gb dedicated vram, a 120 gig ssd which i am assuming is the boot drive, a 2 tb hard drive, and a b350 chipset motherboard( again it doesnt list the brand). The place that is selling it is selling it for $1030.00 is this a good price or would it be better to get it elsewhere?

Not good at all. I recommend using a deal site like Fatwallet or Slickdeals if you want to buy a complete PC. If you live near a Microcenter, stop in there because they sell their house brand PCs for reasonable prices (once again watch for sales).

For example, I recently saw an Alienware Intel 7700 system with a GTX 1080 on Slickdeals for $1150. It's expired now, but there are new deals listed on there pretty regularly.

Yes, but a 6C/12T unlocked Ryzen 5 1600X rig would be much preferable to a locked, 4C/8T i7-7700. All the cool kids are getting Ryzen rigs. ^_^

Edit: Yes, OP, that's a really decent deal for a Ryzen pre-built, if it includes Windows 10 legit and a warranty. You would be hard-pressed to build one for that, including Windows.

Do we know it is a 1600X? What is stopping it from being something else like a 1500 or maybe even a 1400?

I would buy a rig with a intel cpu and nvidia gpu which you have listed but the price of your rig seem high unless this other items not listed in your list.

You should just buy the parts yourself and get parts from some place like Newegg. I am posting there list of builds that people looking to build a PC can use that list.

Also if your want a better gaming system get at least an Nvidia 1070 or higher gpu as imho much better gaming performance than a 1060 and worth the extra money to purchase.

Brands are for buyers needing warranty and support and/or that do not want to DIY (for whatever reason).

DIY is for saving money or to customize and tweak out max performance.

Choose.

I agree it's not horribly overpriced, but we don't even know what brand (and CPU) this is. This could be a "out of a white van" build.

They could even get this, throw a GTX 1060 and SSD in it, and call it a day as it would still be cheaper, and at least it is a known brand:
