Is this power supply bad? It works... but it looks like the caps blew up inside!

I purchased this PSU from a forum member and I think it may be bad! It was packed well enough, but there were a bunch of packing peanuts that got stuffed inside it during shipped since there was no bag around the PSU. I of course had to open up the PSU to remove the peanuts and noticed what looked like blown caps.

The PSU works fine, except the 120mm fan LED's are erratic in their brightness - like a dying flourescent light.

What do you guys think?

i agree that it's just glue. Think about it. How else would that thermosistor be able to stay on the heatsink 😛. I wouldn't worry about the PSU being faulty unless u get voltage ratings that are out of spec.

It doesn't look like any of the caps are blown, that stuff in the PSU is probably a type of foam that's commonly used for vibration dampening. As for the LED's in the fan flickering, that's probably due to the built in fan speed controller. Ypu should be fine using it.

The fan LED's don't change, regardless of the fan speed (which is controllable via a dial on the back of the PSU).

Good to know that it's glue and not cap guts I'm looking at! However, I do think the fan is going bad. It has a rattle to it and the LED's are finicky. Anyone have a spare blue LED fan? 🙂

actually it looks like you are going to soon have issues with your dilithium crystal matrix.

Those can be a buggar to repair!

use a multimeter to check if you're getting 1.21 jigawatts from your flux capacitor. if not, you'll probably wanna stay under 88 mph
