Is this possible?

I have a client and I've got him a domain and a host. He also wants another domain for a side project he's doing and basically wants it only for the email (possibly a little website in the future). Will I be able to use my current host for this domain also? I wouldn't even care if it costs a little extra. I use spoonohost.com by the way. I'm just wondering if this is possible and if anyone has done it. It would be such a waste to buy another hosting space when I know practically none of it would be used.

In the MS IIS world, you use custom headers to host multiple domains off the same IP.

it is also possible to have dozens of IP address off just one physical NIC

Ok, thanks for the replies. I think I should have focused my question a little more on the following: Can I easily host this new domain on the host i'm already paying for without having to contact them and having them do some stuff on their end?

Really depends on the host & the plan.

Does your plan support more than one domain?

I wouldn't see why not. You're just paying them for bandwidth, not names. The DNS name is just an easy way to not have to enter the host's IP or longer/more complex name all the time.

For example, m4h.com could point to http://127.0.0.1/m4hdotcom - m4h.ca points to http://127.0.0.1/m4hdotca - to the host, it's all just traffic. 🙂

Addon domains are one option, the other is just a reseller account where you can manage your accounts and create a seperate account for each site with their own control panel. If your client needs a username/password to create email accounts, change settings, etc. then they can have their own and won't have to go through you for changes.

Yeah that's what I thought, but the other day he decided he wanted to use another domain. So I pointed the new domain and it still didn't work. I had to use the helpdesk and ask them to change the domain on the host and they said they did that then it worked.

I don't know they made it sound like it was something they had to change. Maybe it worked when I changed it but didn't happen to kick in until after they looked at it...but they still said that they made changes.

I'd rather have them go through me anyway, cause they don't mind throwing down big bills for me to do all the tech stuff for them 🙂
